11.11.2018 - 100 years since the guns fell silent

November 11, 2018

Today we remember those who gave their lives, so that we might live and have our freedom today. We have so much to be thankful to the generation who gave their lives so selflessly during WWI, and also part of that generation and the following one who did the same thing again 20 years later for WWII.

In particular we remember the 181 officers who died as a result of both World Wars.

56 Birmingham officers who went to go and fight and died as a result of WWI

3 Birmingham officers who died at home during WWI

47 Birmingham officers who went to go and fight and died as a result of WWII

18 for Birmingham at home during WWII - directly attributable to air raids and war work

8 Walsall officers who went to go and fight and died as a result of WWI

10 Coventry officers who went to go and fight and died during WWI

10 Coventry officers who went to go and fight and died during WWII

16 at home for Coventry during WWII as a result of air raids

10 Wolverhampton officers who went to go and fight and died during WWI

1 Wolverhampton officer who died at home during WWI

2 Wolverhampton officers who went to go and fight and died during WWII

Today we are proud to publish an online version of the West Midlands Police Roll of Honour (for officers who died at home whilst on duty or through being injured on duty), a World War One Roll of Honour and a World War Two Roll of Honour - which records the names of those who died from forces right across the West Midlands.

These Rolls of Honour can be found here: www.WMPeelers.com/rollofhonour

Huge thanks to Malcolm Fraser for creating these pages.

If you would like to know more about the Birmingham officers who joined the Armed Forces during World War I - there is a huge amount of information at http://www.policewarmemorial.uk/ thanks to the hard work of the Military History Society of the West Midlands Police.

We will remember them.
