The Lock-up Open Days

July 5, 2017

In conjunction with Birmingham's Hidden Spaces, we are pleased to be hosting three open days at the lock-up throughout the summer of 2017 - one each in June, July and August.

For the first time in its 125 year history, the central Birmingham lock-up was opened to the public last month, for people to enter voluntarily! With three floors of cells, two charge areas, the kitchen, documentation rooms and an underground tunnel through to the Victoria Law Courts, it really is quite a unique building with lots to see.

The first date was a huge success with 750 people enjoying a look around the lock-up, going inside the old cells and seeing a snapshot of items from the West Midlands Police Museum collection - including photographs of Victorian prisoners and kit from the last few decades.

The next two events will be July 15th (sold out) and August 12th (tickets to be released mid July). Tickets are £5 general admission with children under 12 being free (although we ask you to obtain free child tickets in addition to any paid tickets to help us manage numbers).

We don't have any further dates planned at the moment but watch this space or follow us on @WMPHistory for details of any future events.

In addition if you or any of your relatives can tell us any interesting stories about the lock-up, please get in touch!
