You may have seen in the press yesterday that we were successful with our recent lottery bid and the plans to convert the Lock-up into the new West Midlands Police Museum will definitely go ahead. Our plans were to continue fundraising until mid-July and then shut for building works with an anticipated opening of late 2021. The press release can be seen here:
The latest Government advice however on Coronavirus has led to us taking the necessary steps to cancel all our events and bookings until the end of April, with a review date mid-April to assess the situation for May onwards.
We will endeavour to keep everyone posted, and hopefully we can re-open again prior to the building works for people to get a last glimpse of the Lock-up pretty much as it was when it shut its doors as a custody block in 2016, before it transforms into the biggest and best police museum in the country.
Please follow our progress on WMPeelers.com but also on social media via Facebook (the Lock-up) and Twitter (@WMPhistory) as we will be posting regular snippets of police history and updates about the project.
Stay safe and look after each other.
